So what would Colin Firth be? And then there's Clive Owen, but I guess he falls into more of the "American actor jock camp?" Or, are they not even on your "list"?

Don't worry, this economy will take care of both extremes. The restaurant that keeps you waiting will lose all of its customers. The happy guy will be recruited into a real job. That will just leave the professionals and you can eat in peace, like in Italy or France.

A word of advice
Posted by Guy Lodge · 4:14 pm · January 22nd, 2009

To any actors who might find themselves in the hunt for an Oscar nod next year: don’t let me interview you.

Seriously. It appears that the mere act of shaking my hand, or even greeting me over the phone, placed an immediate hex on the Oscar chances of several deserving thesps this season. If your publicist informs you that you’re due to speak to one Mr. Guy Lodge, proceed at your peril. (Directors, however, are apparently safe.)

To Sally Hawkins, Kristin Scott Thomas, Eddie Marsan, Rosemarie DeWitt, Michelle Williams and Elsa Zylberstein, I’m sorry you had to learn this the hard way. It doesn’t make me love your performances any less.

I have a special memory of the show - watched it with my Dad, who has long since departed the scene. Of course we love the Uncle/Sean Connery model of spy hero, who wouldn't? Gorgeous, well attired men who always triumph - what's wrong with that? Isn't that part of Obama's appeal?

And in the "truth is stranger than fiction" category, this stuff appears to exist in real life. Look at Valerie Plame Wilson, a modern Illya in a dress....

Not hung over, early gym - a miracle. Petrified of the snowy drive from hell, but loved the cozy dinner and lots of bubbly in front of your roaring fire. We are lucky to have so many good reasons to celebrate, especially now, while so many others do not. We continue to be blessed with great families and friends and hope that we raise our glasses with you all forever.

It's no accident that the longest day of the year, June 21st, is my anniversary. A hot sunny beach trumps a slush filled curbside anytime. HOWEVER, I am compelled to admit that a real white Christmas is a thing of beauty. It's a great excuse to stay inside by the fire and imbibe. You enjoy that part, right??
